Medium · Metro works on line 1

Allow extra time across the river this week.

Overview

Paris works best as a Right Bank morning and a Left Bank afternoon, not a race between towers. Book the Louvre or Sainte-Chapelle, walk Île de la Cité once without a queue plan, then give Orsay and Luxembourg the hours when museum feet give out. Evenings belong in the Marais and along Canal Saint-Martin, not a translated menu on the Seine. A metro week pass covers the river and RER; Versailles is a separate day, never a walk from the pyramid. Monday and Tuesday closures still catch visitors who packed one walking day for the whole city.

Highlights: April–June and September–October for walking weather.

Metro and RER week pass; walk between river islands.

Zip bags on line 1 and around the Louvre pyramid queues.

Emergency: 112 / 112 · 112 works in most of Europe/Asia roaming.

Tips

Accessibility

Louvre lifts, metro stairs

Line 1 is easier than stairs-only stations. Book Louvre accessibility slots ahead.

Budget

Bakery lunch, Luxembourg picnic

A baguette and park grass beats a translated menu on Rue Cler.

Couples

Seine dusk, not Trocadéro crush

Pont Neuf at blue hour beats the Trocadéro selfie scrum.

Culture

Say bonjour first

A greeting at the bakery door matters more than fluent French.

Emergency

112 and SAMU 15

112 for police; 15 for medical. Night pharmacies show a green cross duty sign.

Family

Luxembourg over Eiffel stairs

Boats and the playground beat a long tower queue with small kids.

Food

Skip the tourist-menu Seine

A short queue in the 11th usually beats a translated board on Rue Cler.

Internet

eSIM before CDG wifi

Buy data before you need maps in the RER tunnels.

Local rules

Validate every RER ticket

Inspectors fine unmarked tickets. No smoking on metro platforms.

Luxury

One proper table in the 8th

Splurge on a booked table, not a Seine tourist-menu boat.

Money

Cards almost everywhere

Contactless works in bakeries; keep a few euros for markets and toilets.

Packing

A compact rain shell

April showers and air-con metros swing in one afternoon.

Safety

Busy metro doors

Zip bags on line 1 and around the Louvre pyramid queues.

Scams

Petition clipboards at Sacré-Cœur

Walk past clipboards and string-men on the steps. Keep the bag on your front.

SIM

eSIM before the CDG kiosk

Buy data before you land. The official kiosk queue at CDG is slower than an eSIM QR.

Solo

Marais counters at lunch

A stool in the 3rd is easy for one. Stick to lit streets after the last metro.

Transport

Buy a Navigo week pass

Load it at CDG or a station the night you land. Single tickets add up across the RER.

Visa

Schengen entry rules

Passport validity and visa type change; confirm before you book Eurostar or flights.

Weather

Grey does not cancel the walk

Light rain is normal; museums fill when it pours.
